Rudolf Fänner

Rudolf Fänner (born September 14, 1879 in Rossatz-Arnsdorf , Lower Austria , † April 21, 1959 in Vienna ) was an Austrian sculptor .

Life

The son of a kk senior building officer entered the Munich Academy of Fine Arts on September 4, 1899 and took up the subject of sculpture with Wilhelm von Rümann . From 1903 to 1905 Fänner was a member of the Hagenbund , subsequently he also became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus , where he exhibited his works as well as in the Salzburg Künstlerhaus .

Fänner made several war memorials , e.g. B. for castles in Styria , for Sabenstein in Lower Austria and Feistritz am Wechsel . He also created an altar for the chapel of Castle Kranichberg near Gloggnitz . Fänner also modeled some portrait busts, such as those of Franz Conrad von Hötzendorf , Chief of Staff of the Austro-Hungarian Army , which are now in the collections of the Vienna Army History Museum .

Rudolf Fänner enjoyed success as an academic sculptor while he was still alive. He was awarded the Silver State Medal in 1917 and the Golden State Medal a year later.
