Rudolf Freund (computer scientist)

Rudolf Freund (born on January 15, 1956 in Vienna ) is an Austrian computer scientist and mathematician .

Life

He completed his school education at the Gymnasium in Stockerau (Lower Austria) with the Abitur ( Matura ) and then studied mathematics and medicine at the University of Vienna and the TU Vienna . In 1982 he was awarded a doctorate with the dissertation "N-dimensional languages". techn. PhD. In 1988 he became a research assistant at the Institute for Computer Science at the Vienna University of Technology. In 1993 and 1994 he was visiting professor at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg . He completed his habilitation in 1995 at the Vienna University of Technology with the thesis "Array grammars - Theory and Applications". Since 1996 he has been a professor at the Institute (since 2004 Faculty) for Computer Science at the TU Vienna and since 2002 a member of the TU Senate. In 1992 he was a founding member of the Automata and Formal Languages interest group of the Society for Computer Science , and he organized the theory days of this group in Vienna in 2000 and 2006. The theory day 2020 announced by him as part of the Summer of Formal Languages ​​2020 had to be canceled due to the restrictions required by the spread of the coronavirus.

Rudolf Freund works and researches in the field of theoretical computer science , especially array and graph grammars, distributed grammar systems and molecular calculations (P systems). He is the author or co-author of more than 150 scientific articles.
