Rudolf Romeo Ganahl (born June 16, 1833 in Feldkirch ; † September 17, 1910 ibid) was an Austrian politician, chemist and industrialist. Ganahl was a member of the House of Representatives of the Austrian Reichsrat from 1873 to 1878 . From 1891 to 1910 he was also President of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce .

Live and act

Rudolf Ganahl was born on June 16, 1833 as the eldest son of the Feldkirch textile manufacturer Carl Ganahl and his wife Claudia (née Zingerle). After attending elementary school and high school in Feldkirch, he studied chemistry at the University of Giessen . There he finally received his doctorate in chemistry as a doctor of natural sciences (although he never used the academic title himself). Subsequently, he became a partner in the family business Carl Ganahl & Co. , which grew into one of the more important textile companies in Vorarlberg.

Rudolf Ganahl began his political career in the city ​​council of Feldkirch, where he was a member from 1868 to 1888 and from 1894 to 1901. From 1872 he was also a member of the Feldkirch local school board, in 1872 also a member of the World Exhibition Commission for Vorarlberg. In the Reichsrat election in 1873 he was elected by the Vorarlberg cities and the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry as their curia representative in the Chamber of Deputies of the Reichsrat. On November 5, 1873 he was sworn in as a liberal member of the House of Representatives. He resigned the mandate in 1878 and rejected re-election by his curia, which subsequently sent Johann Georg Waibel to the House of Representatives as his successor. In February 1891 he was elected President of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry to succeed his father, which he remained until his death in 1910.

Rudolf Ganahl volunteered as a long-time master rifle in the Feldkircher Schützengesellschaft, in the Feldkirch gymnastics club, which also made him an honorary member, and as a member of the Feldkircher Sparkasse committee . He received the Order of the Iron Crown III for his work . Class .

Private life

Rudolf Ganahl married Maria Karolina Battlogg, who was born in Feldkirch, in 1859. Their son, Karl Ganahl , born in 1860 , who later took over the family business, became politically active as a member of the state parliament in the provisional Vorarlberg state assembly in 1918/19.
