Rudolf "Gritscherl" Geiter (born April 18, 1913 ; † October 1978 ) was an Austrian football player who was part of the national team in the 1930s .
Club career
Geiter's first steps in organized football took place at the Währinger youth club , from where he moved up the first team of Viktoria Währing . In 1932 he was hired by the first division club Wiener Sport-Club , where he made his debut as a right winger in October and was immediately able to secure a regular place in this position. In the autumn of 1933 he left the Dornbacher to accept an engagement in Switzerland with the Grasshopper Club Zurich . However, he stayed there for only two months and after another brief career break at Vienna , where he stayed without a game, he returned to the sports club in early 1934.
Here he was initially back in his regular position on the right wing, but from 1935 was mainly used as a center forward and then as a connector. The team around Karl Graf and Franz Kellinger was at that time a medium-sized company in the top division, only in 1938 could they draw attention to themselves with the runner-up title. Things went better in the ÖFB Cup , where the Dornbachers reached the finals in both 1937 and 1938, which were lost to Vienna and the Schwarz-Rot Wien sports club . Geiter continued to play for the sports club during the war years and had his last missions in the first post-war season 1945/46 .
After the end of his active career, he was a long-time functionary of the sports clubs and rose to director of Wiener Städtische Versicherung .
National team
After Geiter made his debut in the Viennese city selection in 1935, Hugo Meisl called him in 1936 for the international match against England , where he was deployed on the right wing instead of the injured Karl Zischek . Geiter scored the second goal of the Austrians 2-1 victory, which also meant the historic first victory over the British. In the next two years Geiter was regularly used in the national team, where he had strong competition in his position with Zischek and Bobby Riegler .
In total, he came to seven missions, including three in the European Cup of national teams 1936-1938 and the qualifying game for the 1938 World Cup against Latvia . After the connection , however, he was only used in the Vienna city team and in the Ostmark selection.
