Rudolf Hartung (composer)

Rudolf Hartung (born September 28, 1886 in Braunschweig , † January 23, 1975 in Bad Harzburg ) was a German composer .

Life

After dropping out of a law degree, which he had started as the offspring of an old Braunschweig family of lawyers, Hartung studied music in Munich, Berlin and Leipzig. From 1916 he worked as a répétiteur , choirmaster and conductor at the Braunschweig State Theater . In 1939 he went to the newly founded " Braunschweigische Staatsmusikschule " as a lecturer for composition and conducting , where he worked until 1947.

In 1998 the Rudolf Hartung Foundation was established. The purpose of the foundation is to promote art and culture by preserving and disseminating his life's work as well as promoting education and upbringing by supporting the musical education and upbringing of children and young people.

As a composer, Rudolf Hartung oriented himself towards the late Romantic period , but also incorporated elements of New Music . His musical legacy is kept in the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum .
