Rudolf Knoll (singer)

Rudolf Knoll (born November 4, 1926 in Bergzabern ; † 2007 ) was a German opera singer.

Life

From 1951 to 1960 he was engaged as a baritone on the stages of Regensburg , Oldenburg and Aachen , from 1960 to 1963 at the Zurich Opera House . He then made guest appearances at the Vienna State Opera , the Wiesbaden State Theater and the Stuttgart State Opera . At the Salzburg Festival on August 12, 1959, he took part in the world premiere of Heimo Erbse's opera Julietta . On March 4th, 1967 he sang the title role in the premiere of Rudolf Kelterborn's Kaiser Jovian at the Karlsruhe State Theater . In 1962 and 1968 he made guest appearances at the Turin Opera , from 1967 to 1969 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he sang the Kothner, Biterolf and the Faninal alongside Walter Berry , Reri Grist , Leonie Rysanek , Christa Ludwig and Nicolai Gedda . In 1969 Rudolf Knoll was also a guest at the Los Angeles Opera House .

Knoll worked at the Mozarteum in Salzburg from 1971 , from 1975 to 1995 as a full university professor for solo singing. He was also active in the field of opera directing. The highlights of his extensive stage repertoire were Alberich, Jago, Pizarro, Gunther, Beckmesser, Faninal, Mandryka, whom he sang alongside Montserrat Caballé , who performed Renato, Rigoletto, Luna and Dr. Nice.
