Rudolf Lion (born April 17, 1843 in Göttingen ; † May 6, 1893 in Erlangen ) was a gymnastics teacher , bookseller and publisher from Hof . He earned services to gymnastics , especially school gymnastics , and by publishing Friedrich Ludwig Jahn's works.

Life

Rudolf Lion was chairman of the Hof gymnastics club. As a district representative of the Bavarian Gymnastics Association, he was commissioned to prepare for the establishment of the German Gymnastics Association as a member of the five-man committee on the occasion of the 1861 Gymnastics Day . In addition, in 1868 he was co-founder of what is now the Turngau Fichtelgebirge-North Upper Franconia.

After girls' gymnastics at the Höhere Töchterschule in Hof in 1860, Rudolf Lion prepared the elementary school teachers for lessons from 1868 onwards. In 1869 he was elected by the magistrate as the city's main gymnastics teacher.

In the bookstore owned by CH Wolleydt, which the latter acquired in 1853 and sold to GA Grau & Cie. changed its name, Lion worked as an authorized signatory until he finally bought it from Wolleydt in 1870. In addition to the range of books, Lion dealt with the publication of publications from the field of gymnastics , as well as school books. After his death, his daughter Julie took over the business and then her son Ad. C. Th. Lion, who until then acted as managing director.
