Unetscha ( Russian Унеча ) is a city in the Brjansk Oblast ( Russia ) with 26,197 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located about 140 km southwest of the Oblast capital, Bryansk, on the upper reaches of the Unetscha river of the same name, which flows into the Iput in the Dnieper river system .
Unetscha is the administrative center of the Rajons of the same name .
history
A small village Unetscha on the river of the same name was established in 1672.
In 1887 a station with an associated settlement was built in connection with the construction of the railway. With the construction and opening of another railway line around 1930, the station developed into an important hub.
On August 16, 1940, the place received city rights.
During the Second World War Unetscha was occupied by the German Wehrmacht on August 17, 1941 and recaptured on September 23, 1943 by troops of the Brjansk Front of the Red Army as part of the operation against Bryansk.
In the city there was a POW camp 327 for German prisoners of war of the Second World War .

economy
In Unetscha there is the electrotechnical plant Tembr , companies in the food and construction industries as well as railway workshops.
The city is located on the railway line Bryansk - Homel - Brest ( Belarus ), which was opened continuously in 1887 , a line of the then Polessye Railways (route km 139), the cross-connection between the lines from Moscow in the direction of Belarus and Ukraine Orsha - which was opened continuously in 1931 Krytschau - Vorozhba is crossed. The latter is now partially out of service because of the frequent crossings of the Russian-Ukrainian border.
The trunk road M13 Brjansk – Belarusian border and further via Homel towards Brest leads south past Unetscha.
