Rudolf Margreiter

Rudolf Margreiter (born April 21, 1876 in Kundl ; † November 6, 1956 ) was an Austrian painter .

Life

The son of a railway employee attended the trade school  in Innsbruck , then he learned and worked for seven years in the Tyrolean glass painting and mosaic institute . From 1903 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich  in the drawing school of Martin Feuerstein . He earned his living with portrait drawing, drawing lessons and as an assistant to church painters.

From around 1905 Margreiter created numerous works for churches throughout Tyrol. In addition to paintings, there were also mosaics, which were often created in collaboration with Josef Pfefferle  . From 1910 to 1923, interrupted by the First World War  with military service and Russian imprisonment, he worked on his main work, the design of the Reith parish church near Seefeld. He is considered to be the last representative of the Nazarenes in Tyrol.

In 1908 he married the sister of the wife of his painter friend Emanuel Raffeiner . The couple had a daughter.

  • 1903: Stuccoed foyer with wall paintings and putti as 4 seasons in Innsbruck, Adamgasse 17, house designed by architect Josef Nigler from 1902
  • 1907: Mosaic God the Father as World Judge over Mother in the gable of the parish church of St. Nikolaus in Mutters , executed by the mosaic workshop Josef Pfefferle
  • 1907/1908: Ceiling frescoes in the parish church of Mils near Hall of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and design of the mosaic Madonna outside on the western front, executed in 1908 by the mosaic workshop Josef Pfefferle
  • 1911: Ceiling painting in the parish church of St. Nikolaus in Reith near Seefeld , 1913 mosaics in the choir
  • 1914–1917: Small wooden crib in the parish church of the Holy Guardian Angels in Innsbruck- Pradl
  • 1930: Ceiling painting in the old nave of the parish church of Obergurgl
  • 1944: Left altarpiece apparition of the Fatima Madonna in the old parish church and now cemetery church hll. Jodok and Lucia in Fiè
