Rudolf Ritter (born January 19, 1878 in Brüx , Austria-Hungary ; † June 3, 1966 in Gaildorf near Stuttgart ) was an Austrian opera singer ( tenor ) and singing teacher.

Life

Rudolf Ritter, who originally came from Brüx, today's Most in the Czech Republic and was initially aiming for a military career, served as an officer in the Austro-Hungarian army from 1898 before he started studying singing at the Vienna Academy in 1908 . In 1910 Ritter made his debut at the Vienna Volksoper , of which he was a member until 1913. In the same year he was committed to the court opera in Stuttgart, which lasted until 1933 .

Rudolf Ritter made guest appearances between 1923 and 1924 and from 1929 to 1931 with the German Opera Company in North America ; further tours took him to South Africa , London and Paris . At the Bayreuth Festival of 1924/25 Rudolf Ritter sang Siegfried in Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle and in 1930 Tannhauser .

From 1933 Rudolf Ritter worked as a singing teacher in Stuttgart, later he moved to Sulzbach am Kocher . Rudolf Ritter died in 1966 at the age of 88 in Gaildorf near Stuttgart.
