Rudolf "Rudi" Roth (born February 5, 1951 in Haßloch ) is a German jazz musician ( drums , percussion ).

Live and act

Roth played from 1969 as a drummer in the music collective Inningen , then in the band Bhakti Jazz . Between 1973 and 1976 he studied drums and rhythm at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern with Billy Brooks . From 1978 to 1982 he worked as an actor at the Meta-Theater Moosach and toured Europe and North America with the play "Flechtungen - der Fall Parzival". From 1979 he belonged to Götz Tangerding's band for many years . He also worked with Chris Beier's Overtone Orchestra , the Franz Dannerbauer Music Liberation Unit and the Thomas Fink Trio feat. Sandy Lomax, Vincent Herring . At the Munich Piano Summer 1985 he performed with the classical pianists Isaac Steiner and Gary Todd . He also worked with Chico Freeman and since 1980 with Rainer Glas , with whom he can be heard on many albums; he also belonged to the rhythm section of Tony Lakatos / Leszek Zadlo / Albert Mangelsdorff . He developed his solo program Drum for Your Life , with which he has been touring since 1992, and Lyric Meets Percussion. Together with the pianist Andy Lutter, he led a quartet and was involved in crossover projects with tap dancers, such as that of the Tapstick group ( tap and stick dance ) with Sam Weber.

Since 1989 he has also been teaching rhythm and jazz drums; he is the author of three rhythm schools.
