Rudolf Weil

Rudolf Weil (born May 14, 1848 in Frankfurt am Main , † November 7, 1914 in Berlin ) was a German librarian and numismatist .

He studied classical philology and classical archeology in Göttingen and Berlin and received his doctorate in 1872 at the University of Berlin under Ernst Curtius . From 1874 to 1876 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute and took part in the German excavations in Olympia . In 1878/79 he was employed as a deputy assistant at the Antiquarium in Berlin. In 1879 he joined the service of the Royal Library in Berlin as an assistant, in 1887 he became assistant custodian, in 1890 curator and in 1896 chief librarian. In 1906 he was given the title of professor. In 1909 he retired.

He was scientifically active in the field of Greek numismatics.
