Rudolf Zernick , called Rudi Zernick , (born April 26, 1929 in Meuro , Niederlausitz ; † March 22, 1997 in Magdeburg ) was a German chemical engineer and for many years director of the engineering school for chemistry "Justus von Liebig" in the Magdeburg district of Westerhüsen .

From 1935 to 1943 Zernick attended the elementary school in Meuro. This was followed by an apprenticeship as a chemical laboratory worker at BRABAG in Schwarzheide until 1945 . He started studying at the Altenburg technical college and later in Zwickau . There he graduated as a chemical engineer . He then completed his studies as a chemical engineer in Dresden in 1951 .

Zernick took up a job as a production engineer in the old training company, which is now known as VEB Synthesewerk Schwarzheide . As early as 1952, however, he went as a lecturer for analytical and physical chemistry and laboratory manager at the recently established business school for chemistry of the VEB Fahlberg-List in Magdeburg. In 1956 he became director of the "Justus von Liebig" school, which had been known as the engineering school for chemistry since 1953. Under his direction, the school was built up and expanded and, with several 100 direct students and many distance students, developed into the second largest institution of its kind in the GDR . The engineering school produced a significant part of the middle management staff in the chemical industry in the GDR. Together with its diverse social and cultural institutions, the school represented Zernick's life's work. In 1963, Zernick was awarded the title of Honored Teacher of the People . He remained director of the school until his retirement in 1986.
