Rudolf von Viebahn

Karl Ernst Ludwig Lucian Rudolf von Viebahn (born September 21, 1838 in Berlin , † September 30, 1928 in Berneuchen, Landsberg district ) was a Prussian officer , most recently a general of the infantry .

Life

Rudolf was the son of the District President Johann Georg Hermann Wilhelm von Viebahn (1802–1871) and his wife Johanna Charlotte Luise, née Bitter (1815–1897).

Viebahn first studied in Bonn , where he was a member of the Corps Guestphalia , and in Berlin . On April 1, 1861, he joined the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot in the Prussian Army as a one-year volunteer . In the war against Austria in 1866 he was a battalion adjutant, in the campaign against France in 1870/71 he was adjutant of the 2nd Guard Division . In 1883 he became head of department in the military cabinet , in 1888 inspector of the military penal institutions, and in 1890 head of the employment department in the war ministry . Promoted to major general in 1893 , Viebahn became commander of the 11th Infantry Brigade in Brandenburg in 1894 . In 1896 he became director of the disability department. In the same year he was appointed lieutenant general . In 1900 he received the rank of commanding general . On July 2, 1901, Viebahn was put up for disposition with the character of General of the Infantry in approval of his resignation .

During his retirement, Viebahn became 2nd chairman of the Central Committee of the Red Cross . In recognition of his services, he was given permission to wear the uniform of the Emperor Alexander Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 1 on January 27, 1903 .

Viebahn had been married to Luise Pauline Bertha von dem Borne since July 31, 1884, a daughter of the pond management pioneer Max von dem Borne . Since Viebahn's retirement, the couple had lived on the New Mark Berneuchen estate in the Landsberg (Warthe) district , which had been in the possession of the von dem Borne family since the Thirty Years' War . The Berneuchen movement emerged from the invitations from Rudolf and Luise von Viebahn to annual pastors' conferences in Berneuchen .
