The Rufiji was a ship of the governorate of the German East Africa colony and thus belonged to the flotilla of the protected area.

history

The Rufiji was manufactured in Kiel in 1894 for use in the German East Africa colony . The ship was named after the Rufiji River in German East Africa. Among other things, it served as a customs cruiser and was armed with a rapid fire gun for this purpose . The Rufiji was the Rowuma's sister ship . In 1910 the Rufiji was converted into a water prahm .

During the First World War , the Rufiji sank in the Rufiji estuary on October 9, 1915 when a British warship approached.
