Ruggero Berlam (born September 20, 1854 in Trieste , Austrian Empire ; died October 22, 1920 in Trieste) was an Italian architect .

Life

Ruggero Berlam was born the son of the architect Giovanni Andrea Berlam . After Berlam had dropped out of his music studies, he turned increasingly to art and architecture. At the Accademia in Venice he became a student of Giacomo Franco . He later moved to Milan , where he was taught by Camillo Boito at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera . After completing his studies, Berlam returned to his hometown Trieste to receive further training under the guidance of his father Giovanni Andrea. During this time Berlam was already implementing numerous building projects in Trieste, such as Casa Berlam (1879), Casa Leitenburg (1887) and Villa Haggiconsta (1890). Berlam was also active in neighboring Istria and Friuli .

In 1884 Berlam was a founding member of the Trieste artist circle Circolo Artistico Triestino . From 1893 he was a member of the city council of Trieste and in the administration of the city museum Revoltella . After 1904, Berlam worked increasingly with his son, the architect Arduino Berlam . Father and son realized numerous building projects in Trieste, Udine and Parenzo such as Palazzo Vianello (1904), Scala dei Giganti (1905–1907), the Synagogue of Trieste (1906–1912) and Palazzo della RAS (1909–1913).

Berlam died in Trieste in 1920.
