Arduino Berlam (born July 20, 1880 in Trieste , Austria-Hungary , † July 28, 1946 in Tricesimo near Udine ) was an Italian architect.

Life

Arduino Berlam was born on July 20, 1880 as the son of the architect Ruggero Berlam in the then Austro-Hungarian port city of Trieste . Berlam studied from 1889 to 1904 in the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and in the Polytechnic of Milan . After completing his studies, Berlam returned to his hometown Trieste to work in his father Ruggero's architectural office. Father and son carried out numerous building projects in Trieste such as Palazzo Vianello (1904), Scala dei Giganti (1905–1907), the synagogue (1906–12) and Palazzo della RAS (1909–13).

Berlam made numerous trips through Italy , Greece and Turkey . At the end of the First World War , Berlam took over the management of the Circolo Artistico Triestino , a circle of artists and intellectuals that his father Ruggero had founded and whose members included well-known personalities such as Italo Svevo , Nino Spagnoli and Umberto Veruda . From 1935 Berlam taught as a lecturer at the Trieste Art School.

Berlam mixed elements from different architectural styles such as Art Nouveau , Eclecticism and Renaissance in his works . Only towards the end of his creative period did Berlam increasingly approach rationalism .

He died on July 28, 1946 in Tricesimo near Udine .
