Rul Gunzenhauser

Rul Gunzenhäuser (born September 4, 1933 in Stuttgart ; † February 14, 2018 ) was a German computer scientist and professor for dialogue systems at the University of Stuttgart .

Life

Rul Gunzenhäuser studied mathematics, physics and philosophy at the TH Stuttgart and the University of Tübingen . In 1962, he was "aesthetic dimension and aesthetic information" with the work at Stuttgart in Max Bense doctorate . In this dissertation , statistical-mathematical methods are used in text aesthetics. From 1962 to 1966 he was a research assistant at the computer center of the TH Stuttgart.

He was an associate professor at the State University of New York and then taught applied mathematics and its didactics at the Esslingen University of Education. From 1973 to 1999 Rul Gunzenhäuser was university professor at the University of Stuttgart and head of the dialog systems department at the Institute for Computer Science.

Act

Rul Gunzenhäuser was the author of books and numerous scientific publications.

Through his research and teaching, he significantly shaped software ergonomics in Germany (today human-computer interaction) and early forms of computer-aided learning (today e-learning). Another research focus was on the development of user interfaces for the blind and visually impaired.

He dealt extensively with the image of computer science in public in the book “It's the computers to blame!”.
