Rully is a community of 1500 inhabitants in the French department Saône-et-Loire within the wine-growing region Côte Chalonnaise . This place name gives its name to its own appellation, whose wines can also be produced in neighboring Chagny . It lies at about 250 to 300 meters above sea level and has an area of 355  hectares , 96 of which are premier cru locations.

The average annual production is 10,500  hl white and 5,300 hl red wine . White wine is mainly made from Chardonnay and red wine from Pinot Noir . Aligoté's share in white wine production and Gamay in red wine production is low. Since the new territorial division in 1990 for the entire Côte Chalonnaise appellation, prices and thus also the income for the wine producers have increased. Viticulture is profitable again here.

Rully AOC

The most famous wineries are:

  • Domaine de la Renarde by Jean-Francois Delorme. With 65 hectares the largest winery, which is known above all for its high-quality white wines and good Crémant de Bourgogne .
  • Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial is a 17 hectare, owner-managed organic winery owned by Vincent Dureuil-Janthial, which produces roughly equal proportions of red and white wines. Aligote, Chardonnay, Gamay and Pinot Noir are added to the aging process.
  • Domaine de la Folie , once owned by the inventor Etienne-Jules Marey , has a history of over 1000 years. The 14 hectares of vineyards are all around the property. Chardonnay is mainly grown; Of the red wines, the Clos de Bellecroix and a small 4-hectare parcel with aligoté are particularly noteworthy.
  • Domaine de Chèvremont by Paul and Henri Jacqueson is an estate with 11 hectares of vineyards. The white wine La Pucelle ( single vineyard ) and red wines from the Les Cloux vineyard are particularly good here.

Wines from the Rully growing region have been classified as Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) since June 13, 1939 and may be labeled with the names Rully (possibly blended with different wines within the Rully), Rully Premier Cru (possibly with different premier- Cru locations blended within this AOC) or Rully Premier Cru + name of the individual location .
