Russell Malmgren

Russell "Russ" Malmgren (born April 16, 1905 in Chicago , Illinois , † October 1982 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American sound engineer and screenwriter who was once nominated for an Oscar for best special effects.

Life

Malmgren began his career as a sound engineer in the Hollywood film industry in 1930 for the crime film Sisters by James Flood starring Sally O'Neil , Molly O'Day and Russell Gleason . Until 1965 he worked on the production of over fifty films.

In 1944 he worked on the production of the A. Edward Sutherland- directed war film Secret Command with Pat O'Brien , Carole Landis and Chester Morris in the lead roles and was for this film with David Allen , Ray Cory , Robert Wright and Harry Kusnick for nominated for the Oscar for the best special effects .

In addition to his work as a sound engineer, Malmgren wrote the scripts for the two short films Where the Pest Begins and Spook to Me in 1945 .
