Russi Petkov ( Bulgarian Руси Петков ., Scientific transliteration Russi Petkov ; * 21st June 1976 in Gabrovo , Bulgaria ) is a Bulgarian former football - goalkeeper and coach.

Career

In his youth, Petkov played at CSKA Sofia . He began his professional career at FK Schumen , where he played from 1994 to 1998. Then he moved to Slavia Sofia .

In 2000 Petkow moved to Germany for the upper division Lok Altmark Stendal , where he played the 2000/01 season. Then he moved to the regional division FC Erzgebirge Aue , with whom he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2003. In the first season of the second division he was injured so badly that Jörg Hahnel took his place in goal. Petkow was no longer used in the second division team until his departure.

In the 2007/08 season, Russi Petkow played twelve times for the newly promoted regional league FSV Oggersheim . In the following season he moved to the Saxon state division VfL 05 Hohenstein-Ernstthal .

After only half a year he went back to FC Erzgebirge Aue and was the third goalkeeper behind Martin Männel and Stephan Flauder .

As a trainer

From July 2010 to October 2014, Petkov worked alongside Jörg Weißflog as goalkeeping coach for FC Erzgebirge Aue . In addition, he also looked after the B-Juniors of VfL 05 Hohenstein-Ernstthal. After Jörg Weißflog was sorted out by head coach Rico Schmitt in April 2010 , Russi Petkow took over the job of sole goalkeeping coach. After six months as the youth coordinator of FC Erzgebirge Aue, he became goalkeeping coach of VfL 05 Hohenstein-Ernstthal again in summer 2015 . In January 2016, he moved to FC Carl Zeiss Jena as a goalkeeping coach until the end of the season . For the 2016/17 season he returned to VfL 05 Hohenstein-Ernstthal. As head coach, he led the first team to promotion to the league in 2018. After a series of defeats in the relegation battle, he was released in March 2019.
