biography

The ethnic Tatar Rustem Adagamov grew up in Moscow . He studied at the Moscow Institute for Historical Archives (now RGGU ) and at the Polygraphic Institute (now MGUP).

From 1996 to 2000 he lived in Tromsø , Norway , where he worked for an advertising agency. Since then he has had dual citizenship from Russia and Norway.

Rustem Adagamow discovered the then still very small blogosphere in 1996 while working in Norway, according to his own statements, during the long, dark Norwegian nights. In March 2002, at the suggestion of Anton Nossik, he switched to the leading Russian-language weblog platform LiveJournal , where he is known by the nickname Drugoi (Russian: the other ). Adagamov originally wrote translations of interesting articles from Norwegian, as well as his own little stories about his life in Norway. Later, I added my own photo reports, and since 2009 also photos from photo agencies such as Reuters and Agence France-Presse .

His weblog Drugoi ranks 5th in the Yandex rating of the most popular blogs on the Russian web. According to LiveJournal, it had over 45,000 subscribers as of February 2010.

Rustem Adagamow has been an employee of the SUP company of the Russian financier Alexander Mamut , which runs LiveJournal, for several years .

Outside the blogosphere, Rustem Adagamov became known when he was the only photographer to accompany the rescue work in August 2009 after an accident at the largest Russian hydropower plant, Sayano-Shushenskaya . In the first 24 hours after the accident, there was no official coverage and only shaky amateur photos from eyewitnesses. Rumors quickly spread about power plant employees who were allegedly trapped in flooded rooms and who were not evacuated by overwhelmed rescue workers. In this situation, the operating company RusHydro allowed the most famous Russian blogger to observe and take photos of the rescue work.

A few days later, Rustem Adagamov became the first blogger to be invited to the Kremlin's pool of reporters by President Dmitry Medvedev's media office.

According to the director of the Kommersant publishing house and other observers, Rustem Adagamov's weblog is a real competitor to the online editions of the largest Russian newspapers such as Vedomosti , Izvestia and Kommersant.
