Rustie (* 4. January 1983 in Glasgow as Russell Whyte ) is a Scottish musician , music producer and DJ . His music can be assigned to the Aquacrunk that was largely influenced by him .

Life

Russell Whyte has played guitar since he was 10 years old before turning to electronic music production influenced by hip-hop bands like the Beastie Boys , electro and video game music of the 1980s and 1990s. As a teenager he started DJing .

In 2007 he released his debut EP Jagz the Smack on Stuff Records. As a genre name, Rustie himself popularized the name “Aquacrunk”, which went back to his predilection for crunk and the “ aquatic ” sound worlds of the musician Drexciya .

In 2010 Rustie signed a record deal with Warp Records . His much-acclaimed debut album Glass Swords was released there a year later . It received very positive reviews and made it into the annual charts of the Guardian (No. 9), The Wire (No. 2) and Mixmag (No. 3). The second album Green Language , which included collaborations with D Double E , Danny Brown and Gorgeous Children , followed in 2014.

Shortly after his third album Evenifudontbelieve was released, Whyte announced a break in December 2015 and canceled all future appearances. As a reason, he cited addiction problems and his mental state.
