Rut Arnfjörð Jónsdóttir (born July 21, 1990 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic handball player .

Career

Rut Arnfjörð initially played for the Icelandic club HK Kópavogur , with whom she played in the highest Icelandic league. The backcourt player moved in 2008 to the Danish club Team Tvis Holstebro , who shortly before rose to the top Danish league. With TTH she made it into the final of the EHF Cup in 2011 , but failed there at FC Midtjylland Håndbold . Two years later, Rut Arnfjörð Jónsdóttir was again in the EHF Cup final, which she won with TTH. From the 2014/15 season she ran for Randers HK . In summer 2016 she moved to FC Midtjylland Håndbold. She has been under contract with the Danish first division team Esbjerg since the 2017/18 season . As of August 2017, she took a break due to her pregnancy. With Esbjerg she won the Danish championship in 2019 and 2020. For the 2020/21 season she will move to the Icelandic first division club KA Akureyri .

Rut Arnfjörð Jónsdóttir has made 94 appearances for Iceland so far . With her national team, she qualified for the European Championships for the first time in 2010 . In addition, she previously took part with the Icelandic national junior team at the 2008 World Cup in Macedonia, where Iceland finished 13th.
