Ruth Zadek (born May 20, 1953 in Neustrelitz ) is a German visual artist and honorary city councilor in Nuremberg.

Life

She is the second of three daughters of the Jewish communist resistance fighters Gerhard Zadek and Alice Zadek . Ruth Zadek grew up in Berlin, studied art education and history at the Humboldt University in Berlin and graduated in 1975 with a diploma.

In order to develop artistically she left the GDR in 1981 and moved to Nuremberg, where she still lives and works today. She also supported other GDR citizens in gaining a foothold in the West. B. the successful in the GDR jazz guitarist Uwe Kropinski , who did not want to return to the GDR in 1986 after a concert in Bavaria. In the 1996 documentary film "Shalom Comrades" by Gitta Nickel broadcast on the Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg , Ruth Zadek reports on the consequences of her departure for her and her parents who were active in the GDR.

From 1984 to 1989 she studied painting and free graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg under Georg Karl Pfahler . There she became a master class student and later also an assistant to Georg Karl Pfahler and Rolf-Gunther Dienst . Ruth Zadek has been working as a freelance visual artist since 1993 and has since been involved in solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. a. in the Kunsthalle Nürnberg , in the Kunsthalle Tübingen , in the Gallery of Artists in Munich, in the City Museum Erlangen and in the Nuremberg House in Krakow.

At the same time, she taught at the Summer Academy for Fine Arts in Salzburg (1994, 1997) and at the Summer Academy of the Center for Interdisciplinary Design in Plauen (2002).

As program coordinator and artistic director, she helped bring about the first “ Blue Night ” in Nuremberg. Ruth Zadek has been a voluntary city councilor in the Nuremberg city council since 2002. a. also as spokeswoman for cultural policy and in the culture committee of the Bavarian Association of Cities.
