Omar Mapuri

Omar Ramadhani Mapuri (born January 10, 1950 in Kahama , Tanganyika , today: Tanzania ) is a Tanzanian diplomat and politician of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), who was Minister of Education between 1985 and 2000, Minister of the Interior from 2003 to 2006, and between 2006 and Was ambassador to the People's Republic of China in 2012 .

Life

Mapuri became Minister of Education in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Joseph Sinde Warioba in 1985 and held this ministerial office until 2000 in the governments of Prime Ministers John Malecela , Cleopa David Msuya and Frederick Sumaye . On February 1, 2003, he succeeded Muhammed Seif Khatib as Minister of the Interior in Prime Minister Sumaye's cabinet. On January 4, 2006, President Jakaya Kikwete appointed John Chiligati to succeed him as Interior Minister in Prime Minister Edward Lowassa's cabinet . When the new government was formed, Asha-Rose Migiro was appointed Foreign Minister, Juma Kapuya Minister of Defense and Zakia Meghji Minister of Finance.

Mapuri then succeeded Charles Sanga as ambassador to the People's Republic of China in 2006 and remained in this post until 2012.
