Rutherford AVA (recognized since 1993) is a wine-growing region in the US state of California and is part of the national Napa Valley AVA . The vineyards are concentrated in an area around the town of Rutherford . The wine-growing region, recognized on July 2, 1993, is internationally known for the red wines made from the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety . The soil consists of sandy loam with a high proportion of gravel.
The 2,700 hectare area is home to the world-famous Beaulieu Vineyards and Inglenook Winery .
