Ryszard Zub (born March 24, 1934 in Lwów , then Poland ; † January 11, 2015 in Padua , Italy ) was a Polish saber fencer and trainer.

successes

Ryszard Zub was world champion with the team in 1959 in Budapest , 1961 in Turin , 1962 in Buenos Aires and 1963 in Gdansk . In addition, he won bronze with her in Paris in 1957 . He took part in the Olympic Games three times : at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne he reached the final round with the team, in which they only had to admit defeat to Hungary and took second place. Together with Marek Kuszewski , Andrzej Piątkowski , Jerzy Pawłowski , Wojciech Zabłocki and Zygmunt Pawlas , Zub won the silver medal. In 1960 he was eliminated in Rome singles in the quarter-finals, while he moved into the final again with the team. There Hungary turned out to be the stronger team for the second time and won the battle 9: 7, so that Zub received another silver medal with Marek Kuszewski, Emil Ochyra , Jerzy Pawłowski, Andrzej Piątkowski and Wojciech Zabłocki. After his active career, Zub worked as a fencing trainer, first in Poland and later in Padua in Italy . Among his protégés were the Olympic champions Michele Maffei , Mario Aldo Montano , Marco Marin and Gianfranco Dalla Barba .
