Baron Sándor Korányi von Tolcsva (born June 18, 1866 in Pest , † April 12, 1944 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian-Jewish medic . His name was also Baron Alexander von Korányi, Baron Sándor Korányi de Tolcsva, Báró Tolcsvai Korányi Sándor , Baron Sándor von Korányi and Baron Tolcsvai Korényi Séndor .

He coined and defined the term renal failure in 1897 . In 1906 he was a founding member of the German Society for Urology . In 1897 he developed cryoscopy, the first method for testing kidney function.

Life

He is from Budapest , Hungary, and was born in Pest on June 18, 1866. His father was Friedrich von Korányi , an internist at the University of Budapest . After completing his medical degree at the University of Budapest, Sándor Korányi studied at the University of Strasbourg in Alsace with Friedrich Leopold Goltz . He died in Budapest on April 12, 1944.

Act

After his return from Strasbourg in 1890, Sándor Korányi worked as the head of the Institute for Veterinary Physiology in Budapest. In 1893 he completed his habilitation in internal medicine at the University of Budapest, where he became an associate professor in 1900 . From 1895 he worked at the Budapest City Hospital. In 1909 he became director of the 3rd Medical Department as a full professor .

Honors

In 1925 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .
