economy

In the 1990s, an industrial park was built in São Miguel de Poiares . Due to the favorable location on the main traffic route between Guarda and Coimbra, the still free flat land, São Miguel was the ideal location for an industrial park. The city tries to attract more industry through subsidies and thus create more jobs. The plots are sold for a symbolic € 1.25 / m², payable within five years, without interest. Access roads, electricity and water are provided free of charge during the entire construction phase.

Through these and similar measures, the city of Poiares has made it one of the most developing cities in Portugal.

In addition to the textile and processing industry, the establishment of the amusement and entertainment industry is increasingly emerging. In recent years, for example, an outside kart racing track, a bowling alley, a soccer field and several restaurants and cafés have been built in the industrial park.

The city of Poiares is currently working to improve infrastructures in order to connect to the IP3 expressway (Chaves-Figueira da Foz). With the construction of this expressway, the volume of traffic on the EN17 has drastically decreased, so that the former advantage as a junction between the inland and the coast no longer exists.

The community is currently experiencing a boom in new apartment blocks and people. Due to the inflation rate and rising rental prices in the city of Coimbra, there is more and more urban exodus from which the community benefits. In the last five years, completely new residential areas and many owner-occupied houses / apartments have emerged. The resulting increased demand for entertainment and shopping opportunities gives the community great growth potential, from which not only the community itself, but also the neighboring communities benefit.
