Sächsische Ausbildungs- und Erprobungskanäle (SAEK) is a media-related education and training project started in September 1997 by the Saxon State Agency for Private Broadcasting and New Media (SLM) in Görlitz , Chemnitz , Zwickau , Bautzen , Plauen , Dresden , Torgau , Riesa and Leipzig .

The overall SAEK project sees itself as part of citizen broadcasting in Germany.

aims

Media literacy

People in Saxony interested in the media should be given the necessary technical and journalistic basic knowledge about television and radio production . In addition, a responsible and critical use of the media ( media competence ) should be conveyed on a media pedagogical basis .

In this context, media competence is not primarily understood to be knowledge of how to use the technology in radio and television or the application of journalistic skills. Rather, what is decisive is primarily the acquisition of transferable, media-specific knowledge of actions and principles, which should open up scope for freely chosen action and structure previous (media) experiences and new (media) perceptions. Therefore, in addition to imparting knowledge, communicative and social skills are also taught.

Journalistic training

Another goal of SAEK is the further training of journalists, "newcomers", future editors and other professionally interested people.

Among other things, this orientation is intended to contribute to the fact that the Saxon private broadcasters have a qualified young generation at their disposal, in order to be able to maintain the variety and quality of programs in Saxony that they have created and continuously expanded in recent years.

Project forms

The SAEK goals are conveyed on the basis of practical work, which is regularly aimed at creating a broadcast-ready contribution, for example in the form of a report, an interview or even a feature or radio play, alone or in a group.

In view of this close interlinking of theory and practice, the current three SAEK combination projects (radio and television), some also in school projects, radio and television editorships that organize a weekly radio program under media pedagogical guidance that is distributed daily on the Internet ( www.saek.de).

Sub-projects

SAEK combination projects for radio and television

This type of project has been carried out since July 1, 2004 at the Dresden, Leipzig and Chemnitz locations. It serves to train people who are interested in the operation and organization of radio and television.

School-related SAEK projects

School-based SAEK projects are also run at the Dresden, Görlitz-Bautzen, Zwickau-Plauen and Riesa locations. They differ from the combination projects in that their offers are primarily aimed at students and teachers.

The pupils are mainly trained in the field of electronic communication media during or after class - usually in a class group.

The school-related measures are carried out - depending on requirements - primarily at the respective SAEK locations, but also on site in the schools or other teaching institutions.

Professionally oriented individual projects

Projects of this kind should help journalists, "newcomers", future editors and other professionally interested people to improve their journalistic skills.

A professionally oriented radio project is being carried out in Chemnitz to implement this requirement.
