The private Choir School of the Boys Choir of Vienna Woods (English: Vienna Woods Boys' Choir ) was a singing school with public status for boys (and girls) in Maria Enzersdorf south of Vienna in Lower Austria .

history

The choir school of the “Vienna Woods Boys' Choir” was founded in 1921 in St. Gabriel in Maria Enzersdorf by Father Stanislaus Marusczyk, one of the Steyler missionaries . At the beginning it was mainly the musical arrangements of the church services and celebrations of the St. Gabriel Mission House , where the school is located, but the boys' choir soon began to tour Austria and later to neighboring countries.

They traveled to almost every country in Europe, and in 1968 they were first invited for a concert tour to Japan . Further concert tours led to South Korea , the Philippines and the USA . In 1998 the choir went on a concert tour in Japan for the 15th time, as well as being invited to the Kingdom of Jordan for the first time . In 2001 the first tour through Brazil followed , in 2005 the first trip to Lithuania .

The “Vienna Woods Boys' Choir” took care of the entire repertoire for the upper choir : from Gregorian chant to all of sacred and secular European choral music up to the 20th century , folk songs and Viennese music to standards from jazz , pop and rock . Church music performances on the high feast days in St. Gabriel alternated with around 50 concert performances during the school year. The highlight of the year was a 3 to 5 week concert tour in the summer months. In addition, recordings were occasionally made and radio and television productions took part.

Stephan Duursma most recently headed the private choir school with public rights as managing director and as chairman of the responsible sponsoring association of the “Friends of the Vienna Woods Boys' Choir”. Kapellmeister Christian Fraberger was responsible for musical matters .

The choir was dissolved in 2014.
