August Breininger

August Breininger (born September 14, 1944 in Baden ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) as well as a book and paper merchant. Breininger was mayor of Baden (Lower Austria) from 1988 to 2007 and represented the ÖVP in the Lower Austrian state parliament from 1983 to 2001 .

education and profession

Breininger attended elementary school and grammar school in Baden from 1950 to 1962 and completed his schooling in 1962 with the Matura at the humanistic grammar school in Baden (Biondekgasse). He then did his military service between 1962 and 1963, completed the reserve officer training and then disarmed as a lieutenant in the reserve. As a result, Breininger began an apprenticeship as a bookseller and paper dealer in 1963, which he successfully completed in 1965. He also studied law and theater studies from 1965 to 1968 at the Philosophical and Law Faculties of the University of Vienna . From 1968 onwards, Breininger worked as an independent businessman and owner of the book and paper shop Mohr-Breininger Ges.mbH. He was given the professional title of Kommerzialrat in 1991, and in 1992, at the request of the Ministry of Education, he received the professional title of Professor for his services as a cultural reviewer, literary promoter and cultural politician .

In 2005, Breininger resumed his philosophy studies at the University of Vienna and in 2006 took over the role of Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Volksbank Baden. In 2008 he passed the stage entrance examination for acting and completed his studies in philosophy in 2009 with the graduation of “Mag. phil. ”.

Politics and functions

Breininger was elected to the city council of Baden in 1970 and was promoted to 1st vice mayor in 1985. In 1988 he was elected mayor, succeeding Viktor Wallner . From December 1, 1983, he also represented the ÖVP in the Lower Austrian state parliament and held the function of culture and tourism spokesman in the ÖVP state parliament club. He was also a long-time chairman of the culture committee and resigned from the state parliament on August 31, 2001 after resigning from his mandate. However, he did not resign from his position as mayor of Baden until June 17, 2007.

Breininger also held the office of district chairman of the Lower Austria-Baden Chamber of Commerce from 1975 to 1989 and was head of the federal committee of the Austrian paper trade between 1975 and 1995. He was also the deputy chairman of the book trade of the Lower Austria regional committee. In 1988 Breininger also took over the office of President of the Society of Friends of Baden and in 1989 the function of President of the Austrian Association of Spas and Health Resorts.

His other functions between 1995 and 2000 included the office of President of the “Lower Austrian Society for Art and Culture - Lower Austria Art” and the function of chairman of the Lower Austrian Music Schools Association. He was also chairman and founder of the Thermenregion tourism association from 1990 to 2007 and chaired the specialist representation of private hospitals and health resorts in the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce between 1990 and 1995.

Private

Breininger has been married since 1968 and has three children (* 1969, * 1971 and * 1979).
