Viktor Wallner

Viktor Wallner (born December 20, 1922 in Vienna ; † July 21, 2012 in Baden ) was an Austrian politician of the ÖVP . From 1965 to 1988 he was mayor of the city of Baden near Vienna.

Live and act

Viktor Wallner was born in Vienna in 1922 and had to do his military service from 1940 to 1945. In the process he lost his right arm. After the Second World War , he studied German and history at the University of Vienna and began teaching as early as 1947. The Magister Phil. Was the director of the Baden grammar school in Biondekgasse from 1968 to 1982.

Politically, he was city councilor in Baden from 1960, where he was mayor of the city from 1965 to 1988. His successor as mayor was August Breininger .

As an author, he brought out numerous local and cultural-historical publications.

From 1968 to 1990 Wallner was President of the Austrian Spa Association. In the years 1970 to 1982 he was also Vice President of the Austrian Association of Cities .

The highest political function he exercised from July 11, 1974 to November 4, 1983 as a member of the Lower Austrian Landtag in the X. and XI. Legislative period. Wallner is the father of the writer Marlene Streeruwitz .

He was a co-founder of the Baden aid organization and recipient of numerous awards, including: Honorary Citizen of the City of Baden, Golden Ring of Honor of the City of Baden, Great Silver Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria (1999) and Honorary Chairman of the ÖVP Baden.

At the age of 90, Viktor Wallner died on July 21, 2012 with his family at his home in Baden near Vienna, Kaiser-Franz-Ring 9 ( Zellerhof ).
