Séparée: Self-confident & sensual is a German erotic magazine. It was founded in Berlin in 2014 as a glossy magazine for women by Ute Gliwa and Janina Gatzky in their own publishing house, UNA GlitzaStein GmbH . Up to and including issue 19 (December 2018), Séparée's claim was "Eroticism is female."

history

The idea for Séparée came up in 2013 in Berlin. Janina Gatzky, a translator with a doctorate, looked in vain for an erotic magazine for women. Together with Ute Gliwa, the two women researched the market. Playgirl magazine was created back in the 1970s , but over the years its readership was dominated by homosexual men. In 2004 Playgirl was reinstated in Germany. In 2008 the magazine “Alley-Cat” was published initially as a thesis, but was then published by Burda for some issues . The “Jungsheft” from Cologne, according to the subtitle a “Porn for Girls”, is only available to order.

Gatzky and Gliwa designed the first edition of Séparée. The idea of producing a magazine itself was implemented. The first issues were partially financed through crowdfunding .

reception

Séparée specifies the age between 25 and 50 as the core target group, but the focus is more on a “target topic”: The publication is therefore aimed at women with a need for sensuality, lust and eroticism. The unique selling point of the female target group among the numerous erotic magazines led to an extensive reception in the media in relation to the circulation.

In the MDR - Talkshow " Among us " was discussed with the founders, as the magazine was created and fills the gap of "erotic charm and level" for female claims. From the perspective of the FAZ , the magazine contrasts easily accessible naked female skin with male eroticism. The German wave lifted when viewed from Séparée appears that a erection may not be visible, not as pornography be declared to have. The magazine contains short stories, interviews and other articles as well as popular scientific texts that illuminate the topic of eroticism and sexuality from different perspectives and aim to inspire them. Katja Hertin, editor-in-chief of the women's magazine Donna from Burda-Verlag , sees the "different tones of the texts": "At Séparée, sex can sometimes be funny or embarrassing". Die Welt am Sonntag describes the photo series with “not unrealistically tempered or noticeably young” male models , who are photographed by a female photographer, as “pleasantly unkitchy”. Women expose themselves in the magazine, according to the Mirror "rather mentally" even if photos on the front page always show pairs. The taz sees the magazine leveling off "on a conventional path". "Séparée remains good", which is also evident in the language: instead of naming female genitals, "shame is spoken of in shame".
