Sílvio Tibiriçá de Almeida

Sílvio Tibiriçá de Almeida (born August 28, 1867 in Pouso Alegre , † 1924 in São Paulo ) was a Brazilian author, journalist, Romanist and Lusitanist .

life and work

Sílvio de Almeida graduated from high school in Rio de Janeiro. He studied law at the University of São Paulo (graduated in 1885), but then taught Portuguese in secondary education and was director of the Ginásio Paulista. In public life he emerged as a publicist, philosopher and literary critic. In January 1924 he was the founding editor of the magazine Revista de filologia portuguesa (which was taken over by Mário Barreto after his death and continued until December 1925).

Almeida was a founding member of the Academia Paulista de Letras (Cadeira 17). He was married to Prisciliana Duarte de Almeida , also a founder and from 1910 a member of the Academia Paulista.
