history
Settlements in today's Sünninghausen have been documented since the 5th century BC. In 890 Sünninghausen was mentioned in the Werden land register . A cemetery attested by skeleton finds also dates from the same period. Freckenhorst Abbey has held real estate in Sünninghausen since around 1050. A knight family de Sunnichusen appeared in the documents of the Münsterland in the 12th and 13th centuries. The chapel dedicated to St. Vitus was founded around the year 1100 . This was followed by the Romanesque St. Vitus Church , the parish of which became independent in 1276. In the founding document of Emperor Lothar III. the endowed assets of the Premonstratensian double monastery in Clarholz-Lette were named. The monastery was founded by Rudolf von Steinfurt. In the same year, the Münster bishop Werner von Steusslingen (1132-1151) certified the process again. In the relevant document it was stated that two Hufen (Unterhöfe) belong to the founding estate in Mackenberg . In 1678 Stephan Tigges, a master blacksmith from Beckum , settled in Sünninghausen. The history of the Tigges company began with him.
The Tigges company supplied war material (including grenades with a diameter of 7½ cm, which were completed up to the filling). As a result, workers were not drafted into the army. On January 1, 1920 the teaching and sexton positions were separated. According to the census on October 10, 1937, Sünninghausen had 698 inhabitants. In the first days of January 1940, the old billeting (ammunition column) with horse and wagon withdrew from black ice. Soon new soldiers arrived, motorized SS troops from the Germania Regiment. They attended both schools while the students were off school. On March 10, a dud from the German flak got lost on a farm meadow in Sünninghausen. On October 8, 1944, incendiary and high-explosive bombs fell over the Sünninghausen area in the evening. The US Army marched into the village at Easter 1945 . On January 1, 1970 Sünninghausen was incorporated into Oelde.
economy
The Keitlinghausen area is characterized by agriculture, while in the densely populated town center of Sünninghausen the Tigges company stands out with its cast products.
