The locomotives of the SŽD series ТЭ30 (German transcription TE 30 ) of the Soviet Railways (SŽD) were wide-gauge experimental diesel locomotives primarily for freight train service. They can be described as locomotives with the locomotive body of the ТЭ10 family, but with the revised drive system of the ТЭ3 . Due to the power of 2,000 hp per section, the locomotive could not be mass-produced.

prehistory

The large-scale production of the ТЭ3 diesel locomotive with around 500 sections in the Luhansk locomotive factory from the beginning of the 1960s brought enough arguments about its modernization. The United Ministries of the USSR drew up Resolutions No. 639 (of July 15, 1959) and No. 743 (of July 19, 1960), which contained the mandate to revise the ТЭ3 .

These projects were adopted by the Kharkov Locomotive Factory and the Luhansk Locomotive Factory and created different work projects . The Luhansk locomotive factory project envisaged a reworking of the locomotive body with replacement of the length and construction (with a supporting frame). The project name was ТЭ20 .

In contrast to this variant, the Charkov locomotive factory presented a locomotive designed on the basis of the ТЭ10 , designed as a two-section variant. Their designation was ТЭ30 .

construction

The ТЭ30 was developed as a derivative of the already existing series ТЭ10 . The locomotive had bogies, traction motors, excitation of the generator and also the analog bearing locomotive body . This had been thoroughly revised compared to the SŽD series ТЭ3 , which had only one load-bearing frame. On the Diesel engine, the engine was 6Д100 ( 6D100 ) is used, in which the cylinder power could be increased by the changed charging pressure to 250 PS (as in the in ТЭ10 applied 10Д100 ( 10D100 )). This allowed the number of cylinders to be reduced from ten to eight, and the weight of the diesel engine was also reduced from 17.3 t to 14 t. The performance remained the same as that of the ТЭ3's diesel engine . The cooling of the charged air was realized as air cooling in two disc coolers (with the ТЭ3 this was done with water), the weight of the traction drive motors was also a little smaller. Thanks to these measures, the diesel engine generator unit of the ТЭ30 was 4.5 t lighter than that of the ТЭ3 .

business

After the construction of the ТЭ30.001 , the inspection of the locomotive was carried out, which was carried out until the end of 1961. That year the locomotive was also exhibited at the Locomotives Fair in Moscow's Riga Railway Station . Then the locomotive was taken to the Yuzhnye zheleznye dorogi , where it began its service in the Osnova depot . The ТЭ30 did not go into series production as a replacement for the ТЭ3 , a widespread opinion about the prospects for the railways required locomotives with an output of 3,000 hp per section. Mainly these were the SŽD series 2ТЭ10 , SŽD series 3ТЭ10 and SŽD series 4ТЭ10 , which is why the end of the future was quickly heralded by the implementation of this locomotive as a series. In 1978 the ТЭ30.001 diesel locomotive was deleted from the inventory lists. During that time, practice showed that two-section locomotives with an output of 2000 hp per section were only needed on less frequented lines. The 2M62 was created , and there were also enough ТЭ3s with two sections for this task .
