S'Arcu e is Forros

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nuragic settlement ( Italian Villaggio nuragico ) S'Arcu e is Forros is characterized by structural structures that are linked to the cult. The village of Villanova Strisaili is located near Villagrande Strisaili in the province of Nuoro in Sardinia . From Villanova Strisaili the SS 389 (road) heads north to Nuoro . Shortly after the “Alleri Baku” viaduct there is a square on the left-hand side from which a dirt road leads up the ridge to the archaeological zone about 400 m away.

The most remarkable building is the great Temple of Megaron , which is one of the best preserved in Sardinia. It has a rectangular floor plan of around 17.0 × 6.5 m. The side long walls run out at the back in wide ante . The excellent condition of the walls shows that they protrude inwards in the upper preserved area to support a roof structure that has not been preserved. The interior is divided into four axially connected rooms. Ceremonies and rituals associated with a water cult probably took place in the temple, as the presence of a well-preserved canal for the draining water shows. A bench runs along the walls . In front of the east side of the temple was an elongated, irregularly elliptical area, which merges into a round hut at the broad end and is disturbed by the hut foundations at the side.

Recent pinetta that corresponds to the nuragic round huts

Around the temple there are round huts that were already in use before it was built, but only a few have been excavated. Near the temple there are two small connected remains of towers (the forros) with a square opening at the bottom. The relics, which are also in very good condition, were melting furnaces for metals related to the cult. The first excavation revealed many artifacts , including several bronze figures (Italian: plur. Bronzetti nuragici). Recent research has shed light on the history of the place, which lay between the Middle Bronze Age and the End Bronze Age, within which several phases can be distinguished.
