Beaches and bays in Mallorca

S'Arenal d'en Casat is a sandy beach on the north coast of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located in the north of the municipality of Santa Margalida on the Badia d'Alcúdia ("Bay of Alcúdia"), between the towns of Can Picafort and Son Serra de Marina .

Location and description

The beach of S'Arenal d'en Casat begins in the northwest at the small headland of Punta des Patró , about 1700 meters southeast of Son Bauló, a district of the town-like settlement of Can Picafort, which is characterized by tourism . With a maximum width of 45 meters, it stretches about 1000 meters along the partly rocky coast to the southeast to the headland of Punta Llarga de Son Real . The distance from there to the next settlement Son Serra de Marina in the southeast, over the Cala des Serralot and the Platja de Son Real , is about 1700 meters.

S'Arenal d'en Casat is part of the approximately 1100 hectare Dunes de Son Real nature reserve (type ANEI - Àrea natural d'especial interès). Together with the beaches of Platja de Na Patana in the northwest and Platja de Son Real in the southeast as well as the rocky sections in between, it forms the coastline of the Son Real landscape , a formerly associated estate between the torrents Torrent de Son Bauló and Torrent de Son Real . On the coastal plain of Son Real were able dunes form, which are held by low vegetation and were asked to five kilometers long at two kilometers wide under protection.

The beach of S'Arenal d'en Casat is strongly indented, in some places it is interrupted by rock sections. Often only the 500 meter long southeastern part is counted as the actual beach, although the small northwestern bays up to Punta des Patró also have sandy areas. The sand of the beach with sea grass residues interspersed, often remain deposits of the seagrass (Posidonia) on the shore. Even on the sandy areas, small rocks can make it difficult to get into the water.

By frequently encountered in the rear area of the beach dune pancratium , often referred to as beach lilies ( catalan Lliri de mar ), is hereby Arenal d'en Casat sometimes Ses Assussenes called, although Assussena actually a Catalan name for the forth of the flower similar looking Madonna lily ( Castilian Azucena ) is. To the south-west, the area merges into the pine forest of the Pinar de Son Real , the western part of which belongs to the Finca pública Son Real , a public estate. The eastern part of Son Real is still privately owned as Es Ravellar .

Access

The natural coastal hiking trail from Can Picafort to Son Serra de Marina runs through S'Arenal d'en Casat . The next point that can be reached by vehicle is the tourist and infrastructural well-developed district of Can Picafort Son Bauló or the western part of Son Serra de Marina near the local marina . Both places can be reached on the MA-12 road between Artà and Alcúdia . From there, S'Arenal d'en Casat can be reached on foot in around 1700 meters. Other paths run from the MA-12, two kilometers away, through the pine forest towards the sea, including from the main buildings of the Finca pública Son Real .
