The SAC Am Albis is a Zurich and "Aemtler" ( Säuliamt ) section of the Swiss Alpine Club and with 1,800 members (as of January 2020) is a medium-sized section of the Swiss Alpine Club .

history

The Am Albis section was founded on September 26, 1897 and has its headquarters in Affoltern am Albis . It is named after the “ local mountain”, the Albis mountain range, which lies between the Affoltern district and the city of Zurich , where most of the members live. The youth organization (JO) was founded in 1917 for both sexes (from 1996 SAC youth members).

The Treschhütte in Fellital was acquired and expanded in 1922. In 1947 a new building followed and in 1984 and 2012 a conversion with an extension. The club and ski house Eseltritt on the Ibergeregg was inaugurated in 1933 and renovated in 1969 and 1989. The Bächlitalhütte was built in 1964 according to plans by Jakob Eschenmoser and expanded in 1980 and 2000. The Leis base near Vals GR was opened in 1969 and replaced from 1972 to 2015 by the “Hängelahütte” in Vals Matta.

In 1979 women were accepted into the section for the first time. Children's mountaineering was introduced in 1988. The first website of the Am Albis section was made possible in 1999. Family mountaineering was initiated in 2004 as part of the youth program. In 2013 the local group Zurich (City of Zurich) was integrated into the section.

Club magazine

In 1933 the members' magazine “Clubnachrichten” SAC Am Albis appeared for the first time. It appears every three months and reports on club life, its own huts, tours, events as well as tours and events that have been carried out. A print run of 1,500 copies (as of 2020) will be sent to all member households, all other SAC sections and interested persons.
