The steam locomotive series SB 35d was a tender locomotive series of the Südbahngesellschaft (SB), a private Austrian-Hungarian railway company .

Since the SB 35a , 35b and 35c series proved their worth , the SB wanted to purchase other, similar machines. Under the direction of Louis Adolf Gölsdorfs , 21 pieces were procured from the Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik from 1883 to 1897. They differed from the other 35 series by the vacuum brake with the silencers on the driver's cab roof and the sand dome on the top of the boiler. Some machines had the so-called mountain vacuum brake, but, like the machine shown, the silencers were not attached to the cab roof.

After 1924 all machines in this series came to Italy , where they were given the series designation FS 423 .
