The SED district party school Magdeburg was a County Party School of the SED in Magdeburg in today's Saxony-Anhalt . The building is a listed building .

location

It is located in the Neue Neustadt district of Magdeburg at the address Klosterwuhne 39 . The SED district party school in Magdeburg was later built in the immediate vicinity to the south .

Architecture and history

The shell of the building was built between 1938 and 1942. It was planned as a school building, and the design accordingly came from the Magdeburg Building Department. However, due to the Second World War , the building project was not initially completed. It was not until the years 1951 to 1955 that the building was expanded into an SED district party school.

The floor plan of the one to three-storey clinker building is designed in the form of an L. The school was to be housed in the elongated three-story wing, while the single-story wing contained secondary rooms and a passage to the school yard. The school wing rests on a basement , the side wing is designed as an arcade building . The building complex is covered with hip roofs .

The appearance significantly influential windows were as flush with the facade lattice windows executed and are still partly preserved.

In the local register of monuments , the school is listed under registration number 094 70460 as a monument .

Architecturally, the building shows a traditional language of forms, as it was built during the National Socialist era , but motifs from the simple forms of modernism of the 1920s can also be recognized.

At times, the German historian Hans Piazza (1932–2017) worked at the school.

The building complex is currently (as of 2019) empty and in need of renovation.
