Hans Piazza

Hans Günter Piazza (born December 27, 1932 in Chemnitz , † November 27, 2017 in Leipzig ) was a German historian . He mainly worked in the field of the German and international labor movement .

Live and act

Hans Piazza attended elementary school from 1939 to 1943 and high school in Chemnitz from 1943 to 1951 . From 1951 to 1957 he studied history at the universities of Leipzig and Leningrad and then worked as a teacher at the SED district party school in Magdeburg .

From 1958 to 1962 he was a research assistant and from 1962 to 1965 senior research assistant at the Department of Modern History of the Institute for General History at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig. In 1963 he was with the work of the London dock strike of 1889 to the Dr. phil. PhD . From 1965 to 1969 he was a lecturer in general history of modern times at the Karl Marx University. In 1971 the doctorate B to Dr. sc. phil. with the work The Communist International and the National Liberation Movement. In 1970 he was appointed professor for the history of the international labor movement at the history section of the Karl Marx University. From 1969 to 1973 he was director of the history section and from 1976 to 1986 prorector for social sciences at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig. In 1992 he retired .

Memberships

Hans Piazza was a member of the SED from 1952 to 1990 . From 1964 he was a member of the university party leadership and from 1971 to 1989 a member of the SED district leadership of the Karl Marx University in Leipzig.

From 1977 to 1990 he was a member of the Presidium of the Historians' Society of the GDR . He was also a member of several central scientific state and academic bodies, including:

  • 1967–1990: Scientific Advisory Board for History of the Ministry for Higher and Technical Schools in the GDR
  • 1969–1990: Council for History of the GDR
  • 1971–1990: Central Council for Asian, African and Latin American Studies of the GDR
  • 1972–1990: Commission of Historians of the GDR and USSR
  • 1973–1990: National Committee of Historians of the GDR at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR in Berlin
  • 1974–1990: Problem Council General History of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR in Berlin
  • 1979–1990: National Committee for Asian, African and Latin American Studies of the GDR

He was a member of the scientific advisory board of the social and linguistic series of the scientific journal of the Karl Marx University in Leipzig.
