Manfred Kossok

Manfred Kossok (born May 18, 1930 in Breslau ; † February 27, 1993 in Leipzig ) was a German historian . His specialties were the history of modern times , the comparative revolutionary history with a focus on the French Revolution and the history of Latin America .

Life

Manfred Kossok completed an apprenticeship as a shoemaker in 1944/1945 . In 1947 he was released from the Lamsdorf internment camp and moved to Wittichenau .

From 1950 to 1954 he studied history, literature and philosophy at the University of Leipzig . He then worked as a research assistant and in 1957 with the work of the socio-economic structure of the Viceroyalty of Rio de la Plata Dr. phil. PhD . In 1962 he completed his habilitation with the thesis Germany and the South American Question 1815–1830. A study on the policy of the German states towards the Latin American independence movement .

In 1962 he became a lecturer at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Leipzig, in 1963 he was appointed professor with a teaching assignment and in 1966 he was appointed professor with a full teaching assignment for general history of modern times at the Philosophical Faculty of the Karl Marx University in Leipzig. From 1969 to 1992 he was a full professor of general history of the modern age and history of the international labor movement 1500–1917 at the history section of the University of Leipzig.

Manfred Kossok was Vice-Rector for Social Sciences at the University of Leipzig from 1964 to 1968. From 1990 to 1992 he was director of the Institute for Cultural and Universal History at the University of Leipzig.

Kossok has worked as a visiting professor in Colombia , Peru , Chile , Uruguay , Cuba and the USA .
