Club history

Foundation and advancement

The club was founded in 1932 as a railway sports club by members of the Austrian Federal Railways and played in the VAFÖ championship as a member of the workers' football association . As Socialist Workers' Association, he was before the seizure of the Nazis forced resolved, the entire club property seized and destroyed all records of the club. One of the many newly established Reichsbahn gambling communities then moved into the Westbahnplatz, which had previously been the club's own in Cumberlandstrasse. After the end of World War II , the club was reorganized and resumed playing in the same year. The Westbahnplatz in Cumberlandstrasse, which was destroyed during the war, was rebuilt with the help of the Federal Railways. In addition, the association was given a railway barracks adjacent to the square, which from then on was used as a changing room.

Since many former SK Westbahn players did not return from the war or were still prisoners of war , a syndicate with the first division club SC Wacker was set up , which should enable a high-performance team to be built. In return for the provision of some of the squad players, the SK Westbahn gave the Meidlingers their sports field. As a result of this syndicate, the railway athletes were allowed to compete in the first post-war championship in 2nd class Vienna A, the second highest division in Austria at the time. The team achieved only two wins in 30 games despite their "Meidling guest players". With six points and a negative goal difference of 109 goals, the club was considered to be the league's point supplier and was in a relegation zone from the start of the championship. The gaming community was dissolved again after relegation, but the Westbahnplatz was not returned to the railway sports club, so that the latter had to play as a subtenant on their “own” pitch.

The history of the association in the 1950s can no longer be reconstructed due to the lack of documents and tables. In the 1950s, but the club played all appearances as FC Western Railway in, after the introduction of the all-Austrian State leagues A and B become third-class Viennese League . According to contemporary witness reports, FC Westbahn is said to have played for promotion to State League B, but just missed it. In the following years there were increasing squad problems and there was a relegation to the 2nd class, in which the club was able to stay in the midfield or in the lower third until the early 1960s, then relegated to the 3rd and last Class of the Vienna Football Association.

Sporting relegation and dissolution

In the 1982/83 season, FC Westbahn merged with Hernals 02 . The now merged club entered the third class of the WFV as the football club 09 Alsergrund and in the following year won the championship title and was promoted to the next higher 2nd class A. In the spring of 1987 there was a change in the management of the club, with all association delegates being relieved of their office and the renaming of FC 09 Alsergrund to FC Westbahn. Since many players showed solidarity with the former officials and left the club, the club was threatened with dissolution. To avert this, there was the merger with the playing in the same class in June 1988 FC Alsergrund and naming FC West train / Alsergrund . Despite a squad of more than 40 players, however, there was no success, rather the team had to go to the third class as bottom of the table in the 1991/92 season. In 1993 the municipality of Vienna closed the Westbahnplatz, which it now owns, so that the club lost its traditional home and had to move to the Eisring Süd sports complex .

In 1994 there was another name change to ASK Westbahn 1935 . The reason for specifying the year 1935 was the false assumption at the time that the association would be founded in that year. After the error was noticed, the club name was changed to Sportclub (SC) Westbahn / Alsergrund . In 1996 there was the threat of the official dissolution of the association because the association officials had failed to report their numerous name changes to the police for years. In the course of making up for this failure, the club name was officially announced this time, with SC Westbahn / Alsergrund. Much more dramatic for the football club were the income lost since the move from their previous festive events, which could no longer be held at the new square. The SC Westbahn / Alsergrund then moved into the Wienerberger sports facility in Favoriten in 1998 . In 2002, the club rose unbeaten to the 2nd class, after some regular players left them due to discrepancies in the team, but relegation immediately followed. In the 2002/03 season there was a new start in the last division with a young team and with due regard for the club's history, the club again took on its old club name SK Westbahn Wien under which it was once founded. On July 4, 2005, the SK Westbahn stopped its game operations and left the Vienna Football Association.
