The SR1 ( S chul- R Fechner 1) is a calculator which in the GDR by the VEB microelectronics "Wilhelm Pieck" Mühlhausen is designed and manufactured. The design draft by Gerhard Bieber and Hartmut Vogt dates from 1981.

The SR1 is a non-programmable floating point calculator with exponential notation (key EEX). It uses infix notation with precedence calculation , offers no brackets and has no statistical functions . There is a space (keys MR, x→M, M+). Special fraction calculation modes or complex numbers are not possible, the %key divides by 100. The keys Cand CEare combined to form the ( modal ) key CE-C, which must be pressed once or twice depending on the function.

The SR1 was introduced in the extended high school for the school year 1984/85 and in the polytechnic high school (from grade 7) for the school year 1985/86. It officially replaced the slide rule used until then .

The mathematics textbooks of the GDR were adapted to the SR1. The examples were shown with the symbols of the SR1. Particular emphasis was placed on the understanding application of the manual rough calculation. In this way, the students should be able to check the calculated values at any time.

The SR1 was subsidized by the state and therefore sold on presentation of a subscription slip. The price was 123  marks . The identical MR 609 computer was significantly more expensive in 1979 at 460 marks, the price sank to 155 marks by 1987.

In the Federal Republic of Germany , the MR 609 was sold under the brand name of MBO Schmidt & Niederleitner GmbH & Co. KG , while in the ČSSR it appeared modified by Tesla .

The "big brother" of the SR1 or MR 609 was the MR 610 . The top model of the GDR pocket calculator had a similar housing, but had more and slightly smaller buttons due to the greater range of functions.
