The Short Title Catalogus Vlaanderen (in German Kurztitelkatalog Flanders ), abbreviated STCV , is the national bibliography of Flanders , the Dutch-speaking region of Belgium , for the 17th and 18th centuries. The online database contains bibliographical information on over 22,500 print editions, which were determined after the autopsy procedure from the inspection of over 41,000 individual copies of the historical book inventory of the region (as of February 2016). Access is free.

The sister catalog for the Netherlands is the STCN .

history

The database is a joint venture between research libraries , archives and special collections with national book-historical cultural assets ( Dutch: erfgoed ).

Based on the plans for long-term archiving that began in 2000, a first commissioned study by Jeroen Walterus was presented in 2003, which analyzed the situation of historical book holdings in Flanders and presented a schedule. It identified around 250 collections and divided them into rating classes A to D. Walterus also developed the concept of “preservation libraries” as the regional national library for Flanders. Old prints (oude drukken) were defined in the analysis for the period from the 15th to the 18th century.

The predecessor of the directory was Belgica typographica 1541–1600 , published in print from 1968 to 1994. In contrast, the STCV was designed as a database from the beginning using the “Brocade” library system of the University of Antwerp. The STCV was released to the public on November 5, 2002.

Attendees

Since September 2009 the network Vlaamse Erfgoedbibliotheek , which was established by the Flemish Community through a cabinet decision , has been in charge . It consists of participants qualified for long-term archiving, the Flemish "bewaar libraries": "Erfgoedbibliotheek Hendrik Conscience" in Antwerp (formerly Antwerp City Library), the "Public Library" in Brugge, the "Limburg Provincial Library" in Hasselt, the university libraries of the University of Antwerp , the University of Ghent and the Catholic University of Leuven .

The expansion takes place in stages, so by 2007 the works of the 17th century were largely recorded, then the Belgica typographica . From 2007 the titles from the 18th century were included. The annual volume of volumes viewed is around 3,000 titles.

Linguistically, the STCV includes works in Dutch, German, English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Latin, ancient Greek, Hebrew, Arabic and Syrian.
