The SV Hamborn 1890 (officially: Sports Association Hamborn 1890 eV ) is a sports club from the Duisburg district of Hamborn . The first soccer team played for five years in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.
history
The sports association goes back to the gymnastics club Gut Heil Hamborn , which was founded in 1890 . The football and handball roots can be found at the Borussia Hamborn club , which was founded in 1913. A few years later, the Vorwärts Hamborn club split off from Borussia. In 1936 Borussia merged with Vorwärts to form the Hamborn 1890 sports association. It is not known when the Gut Heil gymnastics club was added.
The footballers were promoted to the district class in 1948. There the team was runner-up behind the VfR 08 Oberhausen in 1951 . Three years later, after a decider win against Viktoria Wehofen , the Hamborner made it to the state league , the highest amateur league at the time on the Lower Rhine. In the season 1955/56 the sports association missed the qualification for the newly created association league Niederrhein . The ascent there succeeded two years later. As the penultimate of the 1958/59 season , it promptly went back to the national league.
After a runner-up in 1960 behind the VfB Lohengrin Kleve , the Hamborner managed again in 1962 promotion to the association league, where the team was sixth in the promotion season. In 1964 , the sports association rose to the regional league after a deciding defeat against BV Altenessen 06 and three years later slipped down to the district class. The club did not come out of the lower divisions and slipped down to the district league B. Since their promotion in 2013, the Hamborner have been in the district league A.
