The SV Hemer 08 (officially: Sportverein Hemer 08 eV ) was a sports club from Hemer in the Märkisches Kreis . The first soccer team played a year in the highest Westphalian amateur league.

history

The club was founded on August 23, 1908 as Prussia 08 Hemer and after the end of the First World War it was renamed Lawn Sports Club Hemer 08 . In 1923 the lawn sports club merged with the Niederhemer game club, which was founded in 1910, to form SV Hemer 08. The club colors were initially green and red and were changed to red and white in 1923.

In 1929, the team was promoted to the then first-class district league South Westphalia , but had to be relegated again as the penultimate . The direct ascent was successful, which also ended in descent. In 1935 the team became South Westphalia champions, but failed in the promotion round to the first-class Gauliga Westfalen at TuS Bochum 08 and Erler SV 08 . During the Second World War , SV Hemer 08 entered a war syndicate with SC Westig 08 .

After the war ended, the team played in the Sauerland district class and became champions in 1947. In the promotion round, however, SV 08 failed to SuS Menden 09 . Four years later, the team missed the championship after a 0-1 defeat in the playoff against TuS Eiringhausen . In the following season 1951/52 Hemer was champion, but failed in the qualification for the promotion round at VfL Gevelsberg and SuS Hüsten 09 . Finally, the Hemeraner became champions in 1953 and rose to the state league , which was the highest amateur league in Westphalia at the time. As the penultimate , the team promptly dismounted. The low point was an 8-2 defeat at Sportfreunde Lüdenscheid . The direct resurgence failed after SV 08 lost the championship playoff against SpVg Olpe with 1: 3. In 1961 it even went back to the district class.

Successor club SG Hemer

In May 1976 the SV Hemer 08 merged with the game association Hemer founded in 1932 to form SG Hemer . This played from 1978 to 1980 in the regional league and from then on shuttled between the regional league and the regional league A. In 2009, he was promoted to the regional league, which was held for three years. Since relegation in 2018, SG Hemer has played in the Iserlohn District League A.
